Brazil and Ecuador are set to face off on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium Pedro Ludovico in Goiânia.

Brazil currently leads Group B of the 2021 Copa America with nine points after securing their third win. The host nation remains unbeaten during the tournament, coming narrowly close to a draw against Colombia before Casemiro scored the game-winning goal during second-half stoppage time.

Despite the results, fans expected more from Brazil as they struggled to dominate early on. Ecuador, on the other hand, is in fourth place with two points. A goal difference of only two separates fifth place Venezuela from the Ecuadorians. Gustavo Alfaro’s men must get a point against Brazil if they want to remain confident of making the knockout round.

Brazil team news

In an expected yet underwhelming fashion, Tite’s men have secured the top spot of the group and will be advancing to the knockout stage of the competition. Casemiro proved to be the hero against Colombia by scoring a last-minute goal that maintained the team’s unbeaten streak.

Despite the goal, the team did not appear as convincing as fans would have hoped. Neymar continued to lead the attack, with help from Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino. The team is not currently facing any injuries or positive Covid-19 cases, and should have a fully healthy squad for the match against Ecuador.

Ecuador remains on the other end of Group B, desperately fighting to maintain their Copa America hopes. Ecuador went the first two matches without a win, losing to Colombia before drawing against Venezuela. Should Ecuador fail to match the result of Venezuela in the final group stage matchday, the team will be waving goodbye to the tournament.

Ecuador dealt with certain roster difficulties at the start of the tournament, but managed to find a steady starting XI at this point.

Predicted lineups

Brazil: Weverton; Danilo, Marquinhos, Silva, Alex Sandro; Richarlison, Fred, Casemiro, Everton; Neymar, Jesus.

Ecuador: Galindez; Preciado, Arboleda, Hincapie, Estupinan; Franco, Mendez, Caicedo, Preciado; Diaz; Campana.

Brazil vs Ecuador head-to-head record

Historically, Brazil has dominated against Ecuador throughout all competitions. It will be difficult for Ecuador to break the path as Brazil currently boast a three-match winning streak. The two nations last confronted each other three weeks ago during a World Cup qualifier, where Brazil recorded a 2-0 triumph over Ecuador.

The win served as Brazil’s 11th win in the past 15 clashes against Ecuador. It has been nearly ten years since the 2021 Copa America host nation conceded a goal against the side led by Alfaro.

Prediction

Ecuador cannot take into consideration Brazil’s latest disappointing performance as the host nation returns with vengeance. Ecuador must attack from the get-go, as Brazil will pounce on every loose ball or opportunity available.

Given the situation, however, the host nation will enter the match as clear favorites with Neymar ready to lead the offense. This will not be a match of many goals, but Brazil is expected to take the lead.

Prediction: Brazil 2-0 Ecuador
