Two of Copa America’s top contenders face off for a semi-final spot on Friday at the Olympic Stadium Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazil finished the knockout round at the top of group B after triumphing in all three matches, maintaining their 10-game streak without a loss. Ecuador has been the only team to trap the host nation into a 1-1 draw, highlighting Brazil’s weaknesses for other competitors.

Chile, on the other hand, struggled at the start of the tournament with extremely underwhelming performances, before progressing to the knockout round in fourth place of Group A. Chile has only managed to win one game during the 2021 edition of this tournament, barely overcoming Bolivia 1-0 with a goal from Ben Brereton.

Brazil go into the match against Chile with no reported injuries.

Instead, prominent players head into the match well rested after manager Tite chose to sideline key starters during their final group stage game against Ecuador. A full strength starting 11 can be expected from the host nation, with Fred and Casemiro in place for Fabinho and Douglas Luiz in the midfield. Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison are all expected to start up top.

The team commenced the tournament with immense energy that has since then dwindled as each match progressed. Their performance against Ecuador was not up to par with their previous talent, despite resting major players.

Chile continues their 2021 Copa America campaign without Alexis Sanchez, after one of the country’s best players suffered an injury right before the tournament.

Instead, Eduardo Vargas will lead Chile in their efforts at the top, supported by Arturo Vidal, Erick Pulgar and Jean Meneses. Guillermo Maripan may be sidelined for Chile once again, after missing the match against Paraguay due to a thigh injury.

Predicted lineups

Brazil: Alisson; Emerson, Militao, Marquinhos, Sandro; Richarlison, Fabinho, Casemiro, Everton; Neymar, Jesus

Chile: Bravo; Isla, Medel, Sierralta, Mena; Vidal, Aranguiz, Alarcon; Pinares, Vargas, Brereton

Given their record and 2021 Copa America performances thus far, Brazil are expected to dominate from the start.

The host nation failed to win only one of their three matches during the group stage after Tite decided to rest starters, signaling that a full force Brazil will take the pitch on Friday. Chile might be without two of their usual players during the match, lowering the odds for the underdogs.

Prediction: Brazil 3-0 Chile
