Manchester United left back Alex Telles will undergo another Covid-19 test before it is decided whether or not he will travel with the Brazil squad for the imminent fixture with Uruguay.

The former Porto defender previously tested positive while in England and has been forced to miss the Red Devils' last four matches in all competitions due to isolation rules. He has made just one appearance for his new club so far - that being the Champions League win at Paris Saint-Germain.

He did come off the bench during the 1-0 win over Venezuela in World Cup qualifying on Friday, but the Selecao's decision to call up Atletico Mineiro's Guilherme Arana as cover after revealing Telles had 'tested positive' has left things a little unclear.

Brazil's statement reads: "[Guilherme] Arana was called on to form the Brazilian squad after left back Alex Telles tested positive for Covid-19.

"The player had contracted the virus while still in his club, Manchester United, and is no longer in a transmissive stage. A new examination will be carried out with the entire delegation on Sunday (15). If the test result is again positive, Alex Telles will be recalled."

Telles was one United's main summer signings during the transfer window, costing the Old Trafford side around £15m from Portuguese side Porto. He is yet to claim the left back spot for his own for Brazil, making just four senior appearances.

Should the test come back positive again, it would be not only a big blow for Brazil but also for United, who are already facing four weeks without defender Luke Shaw. Telles' potential absence would leave Brandon Williams as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's only senior option at left back.
