Borussia Dortmund are closing in on the signing of PSV Eindhoven and Netherlands winger Donyell Malen, with the Dutch club agreeing to let him train with the Bundesliga side already.
Malen spent time in the youth ranks at both Ajax and Arsenal, but he made his senior breakthrough after joining PSV in 2017. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a more prominent role with each passing season and scored 27 goals in all competitions in 2020/21.
Having also since impressed with Netherlands at Euro 2020, Dortmund will now take Malen to the Bundesliga, where it is hoped he will fill the shoes of Jadon Sancho.
Dortmund confirmed on Tuesday morning that Malen was training with them ahead of the transfer.
Dutch reports shared by Voetbal Primeur a deal worth up to €34m is imminent. There will be an initial €30m guaranteed fee, topped up by an extra €4m in add-ons, with fairly nominal sell-on fees owed by PSV to both Ajax (1.5%) and Arsenal (1%).
Super-agent Mino Raiola is also expected to secure himself a cut of the transfer fee, but it is now said to be ‘much less’ than the 30% figure previously reported.
Malen wasn’t the only PSV player to impress at Euro 2020. Wing-back Denzel Dumfries made a name for himself on the biggest stage, scoring in group stage wins over Ukraine and Austria.
The 25-year-old, who joined PSV from Heerenveen in 2018, is also represented by Raiola and is thought to be closing in on a high profile switch to Inter. The Serie A champions are in need of a replacement for Achraf Hakimi following his recent move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports in Italy have suggested the proposed Dumfries deal has been delayed because Inter would prefer a loan with option to buy and PSV are not keen on the idea.
