Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from PSV Eindhoven in a deal believed to be worth €34m, including add-ons.

Malen, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season and was selected for Euro 2020, has agreed a long-term contract with Dortmund until 2026.

Although not necessarily a like-for-like replacement on the pitch, Dortmund’s investment in the 22-year-old comes shortly after selling Jadon Sancho to Manchester United for €85m.

“Borussia Dortmund is a top European club that is always at the top of the Bundesliga and also has high demands on itself in the Champions League,” Malen told

“I can hardly wait to be on the pitch with my new teammates, to be able to measure myself against the best. And, of course, I'm looking forward to the fans and the stadium that all of Europe raves about,” he added.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc commented: “Donyell is a player with great offensive potential, who exudes goal danger, brings his creativity to the table and has a high speed.

Sebastian Kehl, meanwhile, added, “Donyell won us over with his performance at PSV. He can be used in different systems, be it in the front, as the sole striker or as one of two attackers, but also in the wide positions. The BVB fans can look forward to Donyell.”

The agreed fee is thought to be €30m guaranteed, plus €4m in add-ons. As former clubs who have contributed to Malen’s development. Both Ajax and Arsenal are entitled to relatively nominal sell-on payments of €450,000 and €300,000 respectively.

Super-agent Mino Raiola is also expected to secure himself a cut of the transfer fee, but it is has been to be ‘much less’ than the 30% figure initially rumoured.
