Lucien Favre's Borussia Dortmund were taken apart by Stuttgart on Saturday afternoon as the visitors romped to a 5-1 thrashing at Signal Iduna Park. The loss means that Dortmund slip out of the Bundesliga top four as they are defeated at home for the third consecutive match in the league.

In a fairly uneventful first 45, it was the visitors who dominated the chances, as the pace and power of Tanguy Coulibaly proved too much for the hosts' back line to handle. Their pressure eventually led to a penalty, which Silas Wamangituka converted. Despite their creative domination, Stuttgart failed to capitalise, and just before the break 18-year old Giovanni Reyna equalised sublimely.

The second half was unexpected, to say the least. Sloppy play at the back gave Stuttgart far more opportunities than they should have had. Cheap goals from Wamangituka, Philipp Forster and Coulibaly condemned the hosts to a sixth loss in ten games.

After the fourth, Dortmund failed to penetrate the defensive wall set up by their visitors and, after a disallowed Reyna goal due to an offside call, there was time for Nico Gonzalez to slot in a fifth before the full-time whistle and inflict a shocking defeat on Dortmund.

Now, let's get into the ratings...

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Roman Burki (GK) - 6/10 - The scoreline reflects much more on the defenders in front of him. Burki actually made a few good saves and kept the visitors' tally to five - yes, just five.

Emre Can (CB)- 4/10 -
Got on the ball before being subbed off but failed to use it. He wasted possession with over-ambitious passes, and gave away the penalty that led to the opening goal.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 4/10 -
Started the game really well, playing out brilliantly and defending well. However, just fell apart after the interval and couldn't organise his defence. Looked helpless at times.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 4/10 -
A clean sweep of fours for the centre-backs. Another player that looked lost at times in the second half. His favourite part of the afternoon will have been exiting play with five minutes to go.

2. Wing-Backs & Midfielders

Mateu Morey (RWB) - 4/10 - Hardly noticeable on the right. Looked out of his depth during the second half and really couldn't put his mark on the game.

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 6/10 -
Was a bright spark in the first half, covering a lot of ground and looked creative with possession. However, the midfielder's sloppy pass was the reason for Stuttgart's fourth.

Axel Witsel (CM) - 5/10 -
Couldn't get on the ball very much, and failed to make an impact. Only having two in midfield seemed to create too much work for him and he couldn't gather any sort of control or momentum on the ball.

Raphael Guerreiro (LWB) - 5/10 -
Created the equaliser with a beautifully weighted through-ball to Reyna. After that looked lifeless and was at fault for the second goal with sloppy passing at the back.

3. Forwards

Jadon Sancho (RW) - 5/10 - Looked creative and bright in the first half. Unfortunately, as Stuttgart became more comfortable, he failed to find space and couldn't deliver an end product.

Marco Reus (ST) - 4/10 -
The absence of Erling Haaland is becoming more and more apparent. Reus couldn't be the focal point that the wingers and midfielders were in dire need of, and failed to do anything of note.

Giovanni Reyna (LW) - 7/10 -
Once again the standout performer for Dortmund, the teenager showed brilliantly quick feet at times, while finishing a delightful move off with the composure of a seasoned striker. Did the best he could do in a rather unimaginative collective performance.

4. Substitutes

Nico Shulz (LWB) - 6/10 - Did nothing wrong defensively, and actually added some attacking threat going forward down the left.

Reinier (ST) - 2/10 - Was brought on to add some dynamism in the final third, but in the end added nothing at all. One to forget for the 18-year old Brazilian.

Youssoufa Moukoko (ST) - 4/10- Tried to get involved but couldn't get himself on the ball very much. Was caught offside in the lead up to Reyna's disallowed second, and missed a good opportunity with the final kick of the game.

Julian Brandt (CAM) - N/A

Dan Axel Zagadou (CB) - N/A
