Manchester City came from behind to secure their passage through to the semi-final of the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

Dortmund took the lead with just 15 minutes on the clock as Jude Bellingham picked out the top corner with a wonderful strike from the edge of the area.

With Dortmund ahead on away goals the pattern of the game was set as Edin Terzic's side sat deep and told Manchester City to come and break them down, and City were handed a glorious opportunity to do just that early in the second half.

Emre Can was adjudged to have deliberately handled the ball following a lengthy VAR check and Riyad Mahrez stepped up to smash his team level on the night and put them 3-2 up on aggregate.

Phil Foden fired a wonderful left-footed effort into the top corner with 15 minutes to play to hand City a 4-2 aggregate lead and secure their place in the last four.

That's the match highlights out of the way, now to those Dortmund and City player ratings...

BORUSSIA DORTMUND PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Marwin Hitz (GK) - 6/10 - Pulled off a great save from Mahrez to keep his side's lead on the night intact, but should have done better with Foden's strike.

Mateu Morey (RB) - 6/10 - Began to try and carry his side up the field as they went in search of a second but was caught out on a couple of occasions as he left his defensive partners exposed.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 6/10 - Looked solid enough without doing anything particularly spectacular.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 7/10 - The calm head among the Dortmund backline as they looked to dig in and retain their lead on the night after going 1-0 up.

Raphael Guerreiro (LB) - 7/10 - Marauding runs down the left-hand side caused Mahrez a lot of problems.

2. Midfielders

Jude Bellingham was superb for Dortmund

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 8/10 - Lovely strike to open the scoring on the night and level the aggregate score. Picked up a yellow card for an absolute nothing challenge, didn't stop running and was absolutely superb.

Mahmoud Dahoud (CM) - 6/10 - Had a decent half-chance early on but fired straight at Ederson in the City goal.

Emre Can (CM) - 5/10 - Perhaps unfortunate to concede a penalty for handball in the second half. Let the game pass him by for much of the contest.

3. Forwards

Ansgar Knauff (RW) - 5/10 - Some poor distribution down the Dortmund right that cost his side at times.

Erling Haaland (ST) - 7/10 - Great work to hold up the ball in the build-up to the Dortmund opener. Had John Stones on strings at times and the England man struggled to cope with his physicality.

Marco Reus (LW) - 6/10 - Knitted up play nicely down the left but couldn't really get in behind Kyle Walker.

4. Substitutes

Giovanni Reyna (AM) - 6/10

Thorgan Hazard (RW) - 5/10

Julian Brandt (LW) - 5/10

Steffen Tigges (ST) - 6/10

MANCHESTER CITY PLAYER RATINGS

5. Goalkeeper & defenders

Ederson (GK) - 6/10 - Absolutely nothing he could do about Bellingham's opener but looked steady throughout the rest of the game.

Kyle Walker (RB) - 6/10 - Defended well on the night without offering too much going forward.

John Stones (CB) - 6/10 - Basically just tasked with giving the ball to the midfield once Dortmund had taken an early lead and decided to sit back. Defended well once City had edged in front.

Ruben Dias (CB) - 7/10 - Looked to venture forward a little more than his defensive partner and helped to open the game up.

Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) - 5/10 - Possibly given the nod over Joao Cancelo due to his crossing ability, but he failed to show what he can do.

6. Midfielders

Rodri (CM) - 7/10 - Kept things ticking over and was key to keeping the ball moving when City were behind.

Ilkay Gundogan (CM) - 7/10 - Sat deeper in the midfield than we're used to seeing this season as he tried to pull the strings.

Kevin De Bruyne (AM) - 7/10 - Crashed the crossbar with a stunning effort shortly after City had fallen behind. Always looked the most likely to grab a goal when City were chasing the game.

7. Forwards

Riyad Mahrez (RW) - 6/10 - Did the defensive side of the game brilliantly and found himself tracking Raphael Guerreiro all the way back into the City box on a number of occasions.

Bernardo Silva (ST) - 6/10 - Tasked with dropping deep to link up play in the midfield and leading the line. Did a good job of it on the whole.

Phil Foden (LW) - 8/10 - There's not much more to be said about this lad. A constant threat and was integral to everything good about City on the night.

8. Substitutes

Raheem Sterling (LW) - N/A
