Bochum host perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in Germany's top flight on Sunday afternoon.

In their first Bundesliga campaign for 11 years, Bochum proved the surprise package of the 2021/22 campaign by finishing a whopping nine points clear of the relegation playoff spot. However, the Ruhr-based outfit have begun the new season with consecutive defeats.

Bayern have romped through their opening fixtures, plundering an unrivalled eight goals with a fluid front line which isn't missing Robert Lewandowski quite yet.

Here's everything you need to know about the meeting between two clubs at opposite ends of the very early league table.

Bochum team news

Bochum's poor start to the new campaign may not be entirely unrelated to the overcrowding taking place in the club's treatment room. Manager Thomas Reis could only fill seven of the nine available spots on his bench in defeat to Hoffenheim last weekend.

All three of Patrick Osterhage, Christopher Antwi-Adjej and Kostas Stafylidis are expected to be sidelined with muscular concerns. The club's second-top scorer last season, Gerrit Holtmann, is also a doubt with a knee injury while defenders Jannes-Kilian Horn and Danilo Soares are nursing hamstring and hip problems respectively.

Jacek Goralski may also miss out with an eye issue.

Bayern team news

While Julian Nagelsmann revealed he removed Serge Gnabry at the interval of Bayern's 2-0 victory against Wolfsburg last weekend because of an adductor problem, the club released a statement which blamed a wrist injury for his individual training.

Whatever the reality, Gnabry may well sit out the trip to the Ruhr region with Leon Goretzka (knee) and Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting (kidney stones) also set to be sidelined.

Bayern predicted lineup vs Bochum

Bochum vs Bayern score prediction

The division's dark horse produced one of the most shocking results across Europe when they rattled four first-half goals past Bayern in this fixture last season. The Bavarians couldn't adequately respond and lost 4-2 in what Bochum's managing director, Sebastian Schindzielorz, described as the "new game of the century".

If this depleted Bochum side could repeat that feat against a Bayern team that have only improved in the intervening six months, it would rival their heroics from last February.

Prediction: Bochum 1-3 Bayern
