England forward Beth Mead has won the Golden Boot at Euro 2022, as well as being named Player of the Tournament by UEFA for her incredible performances throughout the month.

The Lionesses lifted the trophy following a 2-1 extra-time win over Germany in an historic final in front of a record crowd at Wembley, with Chloe Kelly writing her name into English football folklore with the dramatic winner and just as iconic celebration channelling the spirit of Brandi Chastain.

Mead scored six goals across England’s six game, the same as German striker Alexandra Popp, who was cruelly ruled out of the final with injury only minutes before kick-off.

Mead didn’t add to her tally in the final, but with the pair tied in the goal charts, the England star took the prize by virtue of her superior number of assists (five).

Nearly a month ago, Mead got the ball rolling with the opening goal of the tournament as England beat Austria on the first night at Old Trafford. She followed that up with a hat-trick in the surprise 8-0 demolition of Norway and again netted against Northern Ireland.

Mead’s sixth goal was England’s first in the semi-final triumph against Sweden, with the Lionesses eventually going on to win 4-0 to reach the final.

England’s number seven didn’t complete the final, being withdrawn for match-winner Kelly with just under half an hour of normal time remaining. But Popp not able to play at all, it actually ensured the Golden Boot would be Mead’s before the game had even kicked off.

On top of her Golden Boot, Mead also walked away with the Player of the Tournament award. Germany's Lena Oberdorf was named Young Player of the Tournament.
