Everyone loves a combo. Fish and chips, salt and pepper, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, we could go on.

But the ultimate match up is, of course, the playmaker and the goalscorer.

There have been some prolific assist and goal partnerships over the years, with the current record in the Premier League held by Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. The current Chelsea boss set up the Ivorian a whopping 24 times during their time together in west London.

Old records aside, let's take a look at this season's stats and reveal the deadliest duos for goal combinations in this Premier League campaign. The goalscorers are named first in each section, followed by the assister.

1. The Best of the Rest - Combinations: 3

Plenty of combos this season have achieved an impressive three link-ups, including Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson, Leicester pair Harvey Barnes and league top scorer Jamie Vardy, and Tottenham's Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

There are also a few interesting doubles who have snuck in with three, including Issa Diop and Robert Snodgrass, and John Lundstram and Lys Mousset.

Here's the full list:

Mohamed Salah - Andy Robertson
Mohamed Salah - Roberto Firmino
Virgil van Dijk - Trent Alexander-Arnold
Jamie Vardy - Harvey Barnes
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - Nicolas Pepe
Sadio Mane - Trent Alexander-Arnold
Issa Diop - Robert Snodgrass
Harry Kane - Son Heung-min
Richarlison - Djibril Sidibe
Anthony Martial - Andreas Pereira
Adama Traore - Raul Jimenez
John Lundstram - Lys Mousset
Sergio Aguero - David Silva
Raheem Sterling - Kevin De Bruyne
Gabriel Jesus - Kevin De Bruyne

2. Teemu Pukki & Emiliano Buendia - Combinations: 4

A duo that set pulses raising earlier in the season, young Argentine Buendia was signed for just £1.35m in 2018, while Teemu Pukki joined for nothing. Together, it's probably one of the best value partnerships in the Premier League.

Buendia has set up a mammoth 23 chances for the Finnish striker, the most in the league, which makes Norwich's position at the bottom of the table a little baffling. Maybe a few more of those chances needed to be put away, eh?

What's more interesting is each of Pukki's strikes from Buendia's pivotal passes have come against the current top four sides in the league. Go figure.

3. Marcus Rashford & Daniel James - Combinations: 4

Another pair that hit the heights early on this season.

Welshman James turned provider for England forward Rashford in games against Norwich, Sheffield United, Burnley and, most crucially, in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in October.

Although James has found nailing down a spot in the first team harder in the second half of the season, his partnership with Rashford is certainly one for Manchester United to monitor moving forward.

4. Anthony Martial & Marcus Rashford - Combinations: 4

Thanks largely to Martial's hat trick against Sheffield United, this pair are up to four link-ups.

Rashford assisted the Frenchman twice in the win against the Blades and United certainly look a more potent outfit with Rashford on the left, feeding Martial through the middle.

With Martial's hat trick and two more set-ups for the England forward, it takes their combined goal contributions to an impressive 46 this campaign and with themselves, James and Mason Greenwood all under the age of 25, the future looks bright at Old Trafford.

5. Sergio Aguero & Kevin De Bruyne - Combinations: 6

It's probably a surprise that this experienced Manchester City pair are not top of the charts this season, though their absence from the number one spot is probably more down to Aguero's fitness and manager Pep Guardiola's rotation policy than anything else.

KDB sits top of the assists tally for the league this season with 16 and his 19 set-ups for the Argentine is the fifth best return in Premier League history.

Aguero's possible season-ending injury
means this prolific pair may well end up missing out on top spot this time around.

6. Raul Jimenez & Adama Traore - Combinations: 7

Finally, at the top of the pile with seven are Wolves' dynamic pairing of Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore.

They went to the top of the table with a combination for Wolves' winning goal against Bournemouth in late June. The powerful Traore has set pulses raising this season with his outrageous pace and strength and it has proved too much for many a left back thus far.

Mexican striker Jimenez has responded to Traore's searing late crosses in his usual prolific way, heading home more often than not with his fantastic aerial presence.

The duo are turning Wolves into genuine European challengers and they've become hot property, with both regularly touted with moves away.
