Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of former Kerala Blasters midfielder Rohit Kumar until the end of the 2022/23 season.
The 24-year-old has been the most sought-after player in Indian football since his impressive stint for DSK Shivajians back in 2016.
At the end of that season, Kumar got his first break in the Indian Super League with FC Pune City. In only his second senior appearance, Kumar scored his first ISL goal against ATK (now ATK Mohun Bagan) in front of his home crowd.
Since then, he had stints at Hyderabad FC and Kerala Blasters FC.
The former India Under-19 star has now made the biggest move of his professional career with Bengaluru FC.
"I am very excited about signing with Bengaluru FC and about the challenges that lie ahead," Kumar told ISL's official website after completing his transfer to the former champions on Tuesday.
"This is a club that most footballers in the country want to be a part of, so to get this opportunity is special. I’m looking forward to experiencing all the good things I’ve heard about BFC, and I’m eager to play my part in achieving success with this team and for the fans."
Speaking on his transfer to the Blues, head coach Marco Pezzaiuoli expressed his delight in having Kumar as a key component of his side for the 2021-22 ISL season.
"I would like to welcome Rohit to Bengaluru FC. He is a young and hardworking footballer who I believe will play his part in our season that begins shortly. As a coach, I am happy to have him at the club, and I wish him all the success." Pezzaiuoli said.
Rohit has predominantly featured as a defensive midfielder at each of his former clubs. His skill on the ball and agility to intercept opposition attacks make him a vital signing for Bengaluru FC who will look to win the Indian Super League for the second time in their history in the upcoming 2021/22 season.
Time will tell whether Kumar will be able to break through the star-studded Bengaluru FC line-up in the next campaign, but there is no doubt that the Blues have signed a quality player.
