Belgium will look to put the disappointment of throwing away a two-goal lead against France, handed to them by Yannick Carrasco and Romelu Lukaku, behind them when they take on Italy in the Nations League third-place play-off.

Dubbed the 'golden generation', Belgium's talented group of players have again been unsuccessful in their pursuit of silverware, with many approaching - or already at - an age where their chances of international success are greatly reduced.

Manager Roberto Martinez may also have lost his shot, should the rumours linking him with the Barcelona job prove to be true. For now though, he must focus on getting his Red Devils side ready for a clash with Euro 2020 winners Italy - who were outwitted by Spain in the other semi-final.

Belgium predicted lineup vs Italy - Nations League

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Thibaut Courtois (GK) - Belgium's number one will be hoping to do two better than the Euros and keep a clean sheet. Easier said than done, mind you.

Toby Alderweireld (CB) - Despite leaving Spurs for Qatar in the summer, Alderweireld remains one of Martinez's first choice central defenders.

Dedryck Boyata (CB) - While Jason Denayer got the nod against France, Martinez may opt to give Boyata an opportunity to tighten the back three of Belgium.

Jan Vertonghen (CB) - At the heart of defence alongside Alderweireld, this fixture could easily have been dubbed ' battle of the ageing centre backs', had Leonardo Bonucci been available for Italy.

2. Wing-backs & midfielders

Timothy Castagne (RWB) - With Thomas Meunier out of the squad following an injury, Leicester's Castagne will continue to deputise.

Axel Witsel (CM) - Will need to use his physical attributes wisely or else he will have his work cut out against a strong Italian midfield.

Youri Tielemans (CM) - Despite starting the campaign in uninspiring fashion, Tielemans has the quality to make things happen in the big moments of games.

Yannick Carrasco (LWB) - Scored a decent goal against France and the tricky winger should threaten here too.

3. Forwards

Leonardo Trossard (RF) - Eden Hazard was substituted with what looked like another injury against France, so Trossard should be rewarded for his excellent opening to the season with a start.

Romelu Lukaku (ST) - A goal against France continued Lukaku's ridiculous run of international form. Is there anyone better right now at this level?

Hans Vanaken (LF) - With Kevin De Bruyne still building his fitness after a spell on the sidelines, Martinez may give the Club Brugge maestro a run out after his impressive performances in the Champions League.
