Bayern Munich are keen to extend Leon Goretzka's contract, but they will not sign Brazilian winger Douglas Costa permanently from Juventus in the summer.

Goretzka has emerged as a key player for Die Roten since signing from Schalke back in 2018. Over the past three seasons the midfielder has made more than 100 appearances in all competitions, registering 24 goals and 27 assists.

His contract is currently set to expire in summer 2022 and according to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern are 'working' on extending his deal. Goretzka was tenuously linked with Chelsea recently and although this move is extremely unlikely, the Bavarians are still eager to tie down one of their most important players.

The only games that he has missed this season have been due to injury, demonstrating his worth to Hansi Flick's side. One player who is less vital to Bayern is Costa.

The Brazilian rejoined Die Roten at the beginning of the season, however, the club have already decided that they will not be making his loan move from Juventus permanent. Costa has been a bit-part player this season with the majority of his 22 appearances coming from the bench. He has also returned just one goal and three assists largely playing second fiddle to the likes of Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman.

With Bayern uninterested, Costa will return to Turin at the end of the campaign where he is still contracted until 2022. Reports had suggested that the 30-year-old may return to Gremio where he started his career. According to Romano though, there has been no contact between the two clubs yet.

After winning the treble last season, Bayern have not found things as easy this time around. Although they remain in the Champions League, they have already been knocked out of the DfB-Pokal and RB Leipzig are breathing down their neck in the Bundesliga.
