League leaders Bayern Munich host Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon as the Bundesliga returns following the international break.

Bayern have continued their undisputed dominance of 2019/20 into the 2020/21 season and have won six of their seven league games so far this term, including a hard fought away win over Borussia Dortmund before the break.

It's a side that strikes fear into any opponent as of late, but Werder Bremen must face their fears and knuckle down in order to kickstart a rather flat campaign thus far. Four draws, two wins and a loss from their opening seven games isn't particularly offensive, but they must push on while they can in order to keep alive any dreams of finishing in a European qualification place.

Bayern must win in order to fend off those closely chasing them, while Werder need to keep themselves in the top half. Here's 90min's preview of the affair.

Team News

For Bayern, Alphonso Davies suffered ankle ligament damage and was subbed off injured against Eintracht Frankfurt in October and remains sidelined as a result, meaning Lucas Hernandez will get a chance to prove his worth.

Joshua Kimmich has undergone knee surgery and is expected to be out until the new year for Die Roten. His likely replacement Corentin Tolisso returned from France duty slightly prematurely due to an injury, although he is expected to be available for their clash this weekend.

Werder are without top scorer Niclas Fullkrug whose calf injury keeps him out of the trip to Munich, but are boosted by the return of Milot Rashica, who was continually linked with a move away from the club in summer but ultimately remained.

Defender Milos Veljkovic is also unavailable for the visitors, with a muscle injury keeping him out of action.

Since slipping to a rare 4-1 defeat against Hoffenheim in September, Bayern haven't lost a game. It was merely a bump in the road and clearly a defeat used by Hansi Flick to warn his side and kick them back into gear for the season ahead.

The European champions have been on fire throughout all of 2020 and are showing no signs of letting up. They've already scored 27 goals in the Bundesliga this season - of which Robert Lewandowski has netted 11 and assisted four - and show no signs of slowing despite the gruelling fixture schedule.

They have shown weakness at the back but are frequently able to rely on attacking prowess to outscore opponents. They haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last four games, which Florian Kohfeldt's side must exploit.

Werder have improved significantly, considering they were on the verge of relegation to the 2. Bundesliga last season, losing only once so far. Their inability to edge out a win could become cause for concern, but is a positive sign while they remain in the top half of the table and in range of European spots.

Prediction

In usual circumstances, the last thing Werder would want is a fifth consecutive 1-1 draw, but it would actually prove a very good result to come away from the Allianz Arena with on Saturday.

Bayern will be raring to go following the international break and keen to extend the gap between themselves and the likes of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, who are still very much in the hunt. Injuries to the likes of Davies and Kimmich will sting, but with a squad like Bayern's, they'll get over it easily enough.

Werder must focus on the task in hand and look to get in behind on the counter to upset Bayern's only real weak spot; an inconsistent defence.
