Bayern Munich complete historic sextuple with Club World Cup triumph

Do you reckon it can ever get boring seeing your team win absolutely everything they possibly can?

Maybe that's a stupid question - in fact it is definitely a stupid question - but if it is possible then Bayern Munich fans are probably there.

Die Roten have steamrolled their way through almost every competition they've taken part in over the past 12 months, adding the Bundesliga, both domestic cups, Champions League and Super Cup to their already glistening trophy cabinet.

Not content with their incredible haul, Hansi Flick's side headed to Doha earlier this month to take part in the Club World Cup. On paper it looked a routine triumph for the German champions - though the reality was very different.

Flick's men were forced to play on abject playing surfaces which made any suggestion of a football match nigh-on impossible. Meanwhile, their squad was struck with a number of major blows, with Jerome Boateng missing the final for personal reasons and Thomas Muller forced to self-isolate following a positive coronavirus test.

In truth, their clash with Tigres in the final had all the makings of a giant killing - though Die Roten are made of far sterner stuff than that.

Despite a spirited effort from their Mexican opponents, Benjamin Pavard's 59th minute strike was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Bayern Munich, and subsequently completed a historic sextuple.

In being crowned Club World Cup winners, Bayern become just the second team ever to secure the sextuple - with Barcelona's all-conquering side of 2009 the only other to have gone before them.

Pep Guardiola was widely lauded having secured six trophies in his first year as Barça boss, though the achievements of Flick are arguably even greater.

Bayern were a team in turmoil when the former Hoffenheim boss took over from Niko Kovac on a temporary basis in 2019, and having been handed the reins permanently later that year he's transformed Die Roten into German, European and now world champions.
