Bayern Munich brought their 2021 to a close with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.

They were 1-0 up inside seven minutes when Leroy Sane's long strike was disappointingly parried right into the path of Thomas Muller, who made no mistake from ten yards.

Julian Nagelsmann's side continued to attack, with Wolfsburg sitting incredibly deep and gifting them all the time in the world in midfield. Jamal Musiala dragged wide before the half-hour mark, before Robert Lewandowski failed to get enough power on a tricky header to threaten Koen Casteels.

Wolfsburg weren't totally out of it and they did have the odd counter, but Manuel Neuer was there to ruin all the fun in the first half.

Whatever Nagelsmann said at half-time, it did the job as Bayern came out smelling blood. Dayot Upamecano headed in a second in the 57th minute, before Sane curled home a glorious effort just seconds later to knock the wind right out of Wolfsburg.

With all hope gone, Wolfsburg's focus was on damage limitation, but Bayern kept on coming. Lewandowski had an excellent chance midway through the half, only for Casteels to pull off an excellent save with his leg.

With four minutes to go, it looked like Lewandowski was going to go home empty handed, but the Pole finally managed to thump home from close range to net his 43rd Bundesliga goal of 2021, breaking another of Gerd Muller's records in the process.

Bayern Munich ratings vs Wolfsburg

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 7/10 - Not the busiest night for Neuer, but he was there to quell any threat Wolfsburg could muster up.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) - 7/10 - Rarely threatened at the back but was always there to stop his man. Some nice passes in the final third.

Dayot Upamecano (CB) - 9/10 - Nice defensively but superb going forwards. Looked more like a midfielder at times and had the passing skills to match. Took his goal well.

Lucas Hernandez (CB) - 6/10 - Comfortable throughout. A routine showing.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 6/10 - Enjoyed his battle with fellow starlet Ridle Baku. Involved a lot but lacked that finishing touch.

2. Midfielders

Marc Roca (DM) - 7/10 - Asked to sit deep and shield Bayern's defence, and did exactly that.

Jamal Musiala (DM) - 7/10 - A little underwhelming in his deeper role but benefited with a move further forward after the break. Should have scored twice but was involved in a lot of positives.

Serge Gnabry (RM) - 6/10 - Some pretty disappointing crosses and his tunnel vision might have cost him an assist when he was looking for a goal. Improved after rotating with Sane.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 8/10 - Celebrated his 400th Bundesliga game with a smart goal.

Leroy Sane (LM) - 8/10 - Really dangerous in attack. Drifted around in search of the ball and his dribbling was a real problem. An excellent goal.

3. Forward

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 6/10 - Struggled for space for most of the game but was there at the right time to fire home and claim another record.
