Bayern Munich 3-2 Koln: Player ratings as Serge Gnabry scores twice in tight win

Julian Nagelsmann earned his first Bundesliga victory as Bayern Munich manager as Serge Gnabry's double helped them resist a Koln fightback to win 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Koln held out during the first half, frustrating their hosts who went close through Leon Goretzka and Thomas Muller.

The Bundesliga champions soon went through the gears and established a two-goal lead early in the second half as Robert Lewandowski bagged the opener from Jamal Musiala's pullback and Serge Gnabry stuck in the second.

However, Koln struck back in extraordinary style as Anthony Modeste thumped in a brilliant header from Jonas Hector's cross before Mark Uthe slid in Kingsley Ehizibue's fantastic ball in.

Gnabry had the final say, however, arrowing an unstoppable drive beyond Timo Horn to secure all three points for the hosts.

Bayern paid tribute to Gerd Muller prior to the game, with both president Herbert Hainer and honorary president Uli Hoeness speaking to the crowd about the legendary striker who passed away last week.

During the victory, Bayern surpassed a European record previously set by Real Madrid. Bayern have now scored in each of their last 74 league games, going past Real's tally of 73.

BAYERN MUNICH PLAYER RATINGS

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 5/10 - Made just the one save and could do little about either of the goals that Bayern conceded.

Tanguy Nianzou (RB) - 6/10 - The 19-year-old was more restrained on the right than Davies was on the left. Didn't have too many aerial duels to deal with and was brought off at half time.

Dayot Upamecano (CB) - 5/10 - Started brightly, moving into midfield a few times to get Bayern moving. He and Sule lost Modeste for Koln's first and Upamecano didn't get close enough to Uth for the equaliser. Not great.

Niklas Sule (CB) - 5/10 - Some quick feet from the big man saw Sule test Horn with a fierce drive. Defending was pretty sluggish when Koln broke with pace and he was later booked.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 6/10 - Showed plenty of attacking intent, racing up and down the touchline. Looked like Bayern's most threatening outlet in the first half but his influence waned as the attacking stars stole the limelight in the second period.

2. Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 7/10 - A really clever dink almost put Gnabry through on goal, though the winger couldn't quite get on the end of it. Used the ball really well, creating chances for his teammates, and grabbed an assist for Gnabry's second - though it as more about the strike than Kimmich's pass.

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 5/10 - Poked an early chance wide from 12 yards. Looked to get forward but wasn't that influential and was brought off for Corentin Tolisso.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 7/10 - Had a good opportunity in the early stages but couldn't get enough power on his strike. Created opportunities for his teammates and played a role in the first goal by setting Musiala away down the left flank.

3. Forwards

Leroy Sane (RW) - 5/10 - Got a few shots away but his passing was pretty scattergun, only completing 56% of them. Brought off at half time for Jamal Musiala, whose introduction changed the game.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 7/10 - Clinically gave Bayern the lead by stabbing in Musiala's cross. Also hit the woodwork and was a threat all game.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 9/10 - Couldn't quite latch onto Kimmich's delicate ball into the box. Came to life in the second half, scoring Bayern's second and gave them the lead with a thumping drive. His brace ultimately decided the game.

4. Substitutes

Jamal Musiala - 8/10 - His introduction sparked Bayern into life. The Germany international set up Lewandowski's opener and also played a role in his side's second goal. A brilliant performance from the youngster.

Josip Stanisic - 6/10 - Won one and lost three of his four duels. Recovered the ball well at times but wasn't overly influential from the bench.

Corentin Tolisso - 5/10 - Came on and didn't receive much of the ball.
