Bayern Munich completed a perfect Champions League group stage as Banjamin Pavard and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting helped them to a 2-0 win over Inter.
The game was a dead rubber in terms of qualification, with both teams already assured of a place in the next round and Bayern sure to finish top of the group. However, Bayern had the extra motivation to win the game to maintain a perfect record and that certainly showed in how it unravelled.
Inter made a decent start and were denied a penalty in the ninth-minute, but Sadio Mane’s challenge on Nicolo Barella was deemed a fair one. They had no one but themselves to blame for not taking the lead shortly afterwards, though, as Lautaro Martinez somehow managed to fire over from the just yards out.
They were made to rue that missed change just after the half-hour too, when Pavard got on the end of a Joshua Kimmich corner to nod Bayern into the lead.
Inter started the second half just as they did the first, and they thought they had equalised when Francesco Acerbi headed home a left-wing free kick. However, he was denied by the linesman’s flag.
As the game progressed, Bayern slowly took a firm grip of the game, and their inevitable second came in the 72nd minute. It was well worth the wait too, as Choupo-Moting crashed a powerful strike into the top corner following a smart turn.
