Bayern 5-2 Augsburg: Player ratings as Lewandowski dramatically claims Bundesliga goal record

Robert Lewandowski scored Bayern Munich's fifth in a 5-2 thrashing of Augsburg on Saturday afternoon as the Pole claimed Gerd Muller's record for his own with the final kick of the season.

The hosts took just nine minutes to open the scoring, when Serge Gnabry's brilliant cut back across the goal was fumbled into the net by Augsburg captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw. Gnabry then doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute, heading home after a high-octane game of pinball in the penalty area.

Augsburg had the chance to pull one back just two minutes after, but Manuel Neuer saved Daniel Caligiuri's spot kick, allowing Bayern to make it 3-0 soon after. Joshua Kimmich was given time and space and decided to drive the ball into the top corner from around 25 yards out.

Kingsley Coman then got his name on the scoresheet two minutes before the break, finding himself outside the area, shifting the ball onto his right, and firing it into the near post to make it 4-0 at half time.

The visitors managed to pull one back eventually when Andre Hahn headed in a swinging free kick in emphatic fashion, giving Neuer no chance. Augsburg then got a second in the 72nd minute when Florian Niederlechner latched onto Hahn's ball over the top and slotted coolly past Neuer.

It would be Bayern who managed the last laugh, though, and it was Lewandowski who made history with the final kick of the game. The Pole was quickest to react when Leroy Sane's shot rebounded into the six yard area before taking it round the goalkeeper and tapping in for his 41st Bundesliga goal of the season.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 9/10 - Unbelievable distribution, classic 'sweeper 'keeping', a couple of great stops and a penalty save. Couldn't do anything about the consolation goals but what a game for the legendary goalkeeper.

Benjamin Pavard (RB) - 7/10 - Was solid enough when faced with runners and distributed the ball with his usual grace without doing anything very special.

Jerome Boateng (CB) - 8/10 - Occasionally outpaced when the ball came over the top but had a solid game with three interventions. A fitting and emotional conclusion to an excellent Bayern career.

Lucas Hernandez (CB) - 7/10 - Caught wrong side as he gave the first-half penalty away, but other than that positioned himself perfectly to nip in crucially on several occasions.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 8/10 - Was so confident as he glided up the pitch at pace with the ball at his feet. Registered one key pass and was always willing to put in a defensive shift, making four tackles.

2. Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 9/10 - Spread the play superbly, making his side tick and maintaining a blistering tempo throughout. Grabbed himself a deservedly stunning goal in the first half.

David Alaba (CM) - 9/10 - Covered a staggering amount of ground, tracking back to break up counters and surging forward to cause problems, notably grabbing an assist for 4-0. Appropriately capped off his Bayern career with a consistent, selfless and effective display.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 7/10 - Constantly found pockets of space from which he could create openings and influence the game.

3. Forwards

Kingsley Coman (RW) - 8/10 - Was electric from the get-go and delivered real quality, making two key passes. A threat throughout and got a brilliant goal to make it four.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 10/10 - It was written in the stars. After a series of incredible blocks and shots denying him throughout, Lewandowski broke Muller's record with the last kick of the season. A fantastic performance, an indescribable campaign, and a true great of the game. Take. A. Bow.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 8/10 - Showed brilliant creativity and was influential to a lot of Bayern's forward play, also making two key passes. Forced the own goal for his side's first and headed in clinically for the second.

4. Substitutes

Javi Martinez (CM) - 7/10 - Another legend saying goodbye. Was partly at fault for Augsburg's second but we'll allow him that one, shall we?
