Barcelona have announced the signing of teenage Spain international Salma Paralluelo on a long-term contract until the summer of 2026.

Paralluelo, who was originally included in Spain’s Euro 2022 squad this summer despite being uncapped, officially left former club Villarreal at the end of last month when her contract expired.

A calf injury forced Paralluelo out of the tournament before it began, being replaced by Real Madrid midfielder Teresa Abelleira. But she remains arguably the brightest new talent in Spanish football.

The 18-year-old now joins the reigning Spanish champions, having been one of the few Primera Division players to score against them during the 2021/22 season.

Paralluelo is already the fourth new Barça arrival this summer after England star Lucy Bronze, emerging Spanish defender Nuria Rabano and Brazilian forward Geyse Ferreira.

Lieke Martens and Leila Ouahabi have left to joined Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City respectively, with Jenni Hermoso heading to Mexico and Melanie Serrano retiring.

Barça also stand to be without Alexia Putellas for a significant chunk of next season as a result of the ACL injury she suffered with Spain three days before La Roja’s first Euro 2022 game.

In the coming season, Barça are seeking to win a fourth consecutive Primera Division title and domestic league and cup double, as well as aiming to return to Champions League glory after being beaten in the 2022 final by French giants Lyon.
