Pedri is looking increasingly likely to sign a new Barcelona contract in October, with an agreement over a new deal edging closer.

Despite being just 18-years-old, the midfielder has already emerged as a key man for club and country, barely missing a minute of football last season.

His current Camp Nou deal is set to expire in 2022 and although Barça have the option to trigger an extension, they are understandably keen to tie down the wonderkid for many years to come.

According to journalist Matteo Moretta, they should get their wish soon with Pedri poised to pen fresh terms in the next few weeks. All the details are said to be 'practically agreed' and confirmation is desired by both parties by the second week of October.

The news is a welcome boost for the Blaugrana, who have endured a nightmare 18 months. The effects of long-term financial mismanagement have finally been felt in recent times with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann all departing the club. Off-field problems, such as the much-publicised Barçagate scandal have also rocked Camp Nou to its core.

Amid the chaos, the incredible displays of Pedri have been one of the only bright spots. He has already made 55 appearances for the club, registering four goals and six assists. He has also impressed for Spain, helping them reach the Euro 2020 semi-finals as well as the final of the Olympics this summer - where they lost to Brazil.

All of this football seems to have finally taken its toll, with Pedri being taken off part way through his side's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. After the game it was confirmed that he would spend some time on the sidelines with a muscle complaint.

With Pedri's future practically sewn up, Barcelona will now turn their attention to extending Ansu Fati's contract. Prior to enduring injury hell, Fati was making waves in La Liga and his return cannot come soon enough for Ronald Koeman. The 18-year-old has played 43 games for the senior side so far, returning 13 goals and five assists.
