Barcelona winger Ansu Fati has made his long-awaited return to training after nearly ten months out of action.

The 18-year-old picked up a knee injury in November 2020 which ended up needing surgery, but unfortunately for Fati, he suffered a handful of complications which ultimately required three further operations to address.

Having now had the meniscus removed from his knee entirely back in May, Fati has spent the last three months recovering, and for the first time in almost ten months, he has felt strong enough to return to training.

Barcelona haven't offered up a potential timeframe for Fati's return. Instead, he is expected to be given as much time as necessary to return to full strength, with those in charge adamant that he will not be rushed back to action until they are 100% confident his knee can withstand it.

Having said that, the hope is that Fati's return to the first team could come after the international break, with the meeting with Sevilla on September 12 tentatively marked on the calendar as a possible return date.

As noted by AS, Fati is scheduled to take part in an 'express pre-season' during the international break, which should see him build up enough match fitness to play a role in the Sevilla game.

Getting Fati back comes as an enormous boost to Ronald Koeman, who will need the teenager to speed up his emergence as the heir to Lionel Messi's throne following the Argentine's free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Fati flirted with superstardom in the early weeks of the 2020/21 season, racking up four goals in his first seven appearances of the season, only for the devastating knee injury to rob him of almost an entire calendar year.

In Fati's absence, it's Danish forward Martin Braithwaite who has enjoyed plenty of game time on the left wing, with academy forwards Yusuf Demir and Rey Manaj helping out when needed as well.
