Barcelona are planning to give young winger Ansu Fati 20 minutes towards the end of Sunday's meeting with Levante as he nears a full recovery from his knee injury.
The 18-year-old went down in November 2020 with a nasty knee problem which required no fewer than three surgeries to eventually address, but he is finally back in training and is nearing his return to competitive action.
Fati is expected to be part of the matchday squad on Sunday, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the plan is for the teenager to see 20 minutes at the end of the game, in an attempt to ease him back into action.
Should he make it on to the pitch, it will be Fati's first appearance in the famous number 10 shirt, which he inherited from Lionel Messi after his emotional departure to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
There have also been some rumours that fellow youngster Pedri could return for this one, but the 18-year-old, who is battling a muscle injury, has not yet returned to training and is not expected to feature here.
Alongside Pedri, those in charge still see Fati as both the present and the future of Barcelona, and there is hope that the young winger's return will offer an immediate boost to a side who currently find themselves in turmoil.
Without a win in their last three league games, manager Ronald Koeman could hardly be closer to the exit door if he tried, with Barcelona already working on finding a suitable replacement for the Dutchman.
Contact with Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has been made, and while he has made it clear he would be interested in making the move, he will not leave Belgium until after the Nations League finals next month.
