Xavi is willing to let Ousmane Dembele leabe Barcelona in January after growing frustrated with the player's failure to sign a new contract.

Dembele's future has been the subject of intense speculation for several months with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Both Xavi and club president Joan Laporta have lavished praise on the winger publicly, but this charm offensive has failed to produce a breakthrough in talks. Several deadlines for the renewal have been missed by his agent Moussa Sissoko and Barça have seemingly given up hope of keeping the player around beyond the summer.

According to AS, Barcelona issued an ultimatum to the pair, insisting that Sissoko respond to their final contract offer by 15 January. When no answer was provided, the parties held an emergency meeting where the agent is said to have demanded a salary of €40m per year for Dembele, as well €40m more in bonuses.

Barça are not able to offer that and quickly pulled out of talks with the Frenchman now looking increasingly likely to leave the club.

Xavi is even pushing for Dembele to be sold this month and is said to be 'hurt' that the player has not repaid his trust. Since arriving at the club the head coach has made it clear to the former Borussia Dortmund man that he wants him to be a key part of the side.

However, that no longer looks realistic with the match-going Barcelona supporters likely to give Dembele a frosty reception for the rest of the season.

Finding a new home for the wideman will prove tricky though, as his agent will want to test out the free agent market in the summer to give his client more control and the chance of a higher pay-out.
