Barcelona Pitch Invader Reveals How He Got Into Stadium for Selfie With Lionel Messi

So, the basic idea of not allowing fans into stadiums is that fans aren't allowed into stadiums. We all get that.

La Liga managed just three days of action before someone managed to find a way around the tight protocol (and security) as a pitch invader briefly stole the show in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Real Mallorca on Saturday night.

In the 53rd minute of the game, a fan (wearing a 'Messi 10' Argentina shirt) found a way on to the pitch and approached Lionel Messi to take a selfie, before being swiftly escorted away by some thoroughly confused security personnel.

To make this situation even wilder, COPE managed to get an interview with the young man who managed to pull off football's unlikeliest pitch invasion of all time, and he revealed exactly how his plan came to fruition.

“I had planned this before the coronavirus outbreak, ever since I knew the match was happening, I wanted a photo with Messi and to meet him because he’s my idol,” he said.

"My dream is to have a photo with him and meet him . But first I saw Jordi Alba and I took one with him. Then I went to Messi, but due to the virus, he didn't want a picture. Then the police made me delete everything.

“I was with some friends and I arrived in the 40th minute. I jumped a fence of about two metres and from the stands I went down the stairs to the field."

The invader also admitted that he has no idea what kind of punishment he should be expecting, adding that he is awaiting contact from the police.

"They made me delete the photo and sign a document with my details," he said. "They will tell me if there is a fine or not."

La Liga have since released a statement revealing their intention to bring 'appropriate legal action' against the invader, while expressing condemnation.

The win ensured that Barcelona remain ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga standings. Quique Sétien's side are four points clear of their rivals, who will have the chance to close the gap to just one when they face Eibar on Sunday.
