Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Memphis Depay on a free transfer, following the expiry of his contract at Lyon.

The 27-year-old's deal with the French side concludes at the end of June, leaving him free to negotiate a move to another club. He has long been expected to join up with fellow countryman Ronald Koeman at Camp Nou, with the coach a huge admirer of the pacy forward.

And Barça confirmed on Saturday evening via Twitter that Memphis has now completed his move to Catalonia, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal with the Spanish giants.

"FC Barcelona and Memphis Depay have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club once his contract with Olympique Lyonnais is at an end," a statement read.

"The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season."

Depay becomes Barça's fourth signing of the summer, following right-back Emerson to Camp Nou, as well as former Manchester City duo Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia.

It's not the first time that the Catalan club have tried to sign Dutch forward Memphis, and he looked destined to join them in January - only for the move to eventually fall through.

However, la Blaugrana have finally got their man, hoping to add some more firepower to their forward line. Memphis starred for Lyon last year, despite knowing he would be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.

He finished the season with 20 goals in Ligue 1, as well as an impressive 12 assists. His stellar form has carried through into Euro 2020, where he has already got off the mark for the Netherlands in Group C.

Memphis opened the scoring for his country in their second match of the tournament, dispatching a penalty in a comfortable 2-0 victory over Austria.

He will join up with his new teammates at the end of the European Championship, linking up with compatriots Koeman and Frenkie de Jong.

Georginio Wijnaldum's name was also expected to be on the list of new signings, but he has opted to move to Paris Saint-Germain instead.
