Barcelona have confirmed that left-back Jordi Alba is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury.

Alba started Sunday's 1-1 draw with Sevilla but could only manage 75 minutes before asking to be withdrawn because of the issue.

He was quickly sent for tests on the issue and Barcelona have now taken to their official website to confirm that Alba has damaged his hamstring and is set for an undetermined spell on the treatment table.

Barcelona's only other left-back, Júnior Firpo, is sidelined with his own injury, which meant manager Ronald Koeman was forced to give a debut to new signing Sergiño Dest, who is primarily a right-sided player.

Dest, who became the first American player to feature in a competitive game for Barcelona, now appears set for a run on the left of Barcelona's defence, and he insisted after the game that he is comfortable playing in such a role.

"I can play on either side, I don't mind," Dest said (via ESPN) "If the coach needs me on the left, there's no problem.

"I am really happy to make my debut and grateful for the confidence showed in me by the coach. I would have liked to get the three points instead of one, though, because that's the most important thing.

"But it's an incredible feeling to make my debut for Barcelona and to play in this stadium, the stadium of my dreams, despite the fact there were no fans there."

It was a frustrating evening for Barcelona, who fell behind to a Luuk de Jong goal after just eight minutes.

Barça did manage to get themselves back in it almost immediately thanks to Philippe Coutinho's first goal of the season, and they had plenty of chances to seal all three points, with both Antoine Griezmann and Francisco Trincão spurning great chances to score.
