Borussia Dortmund's bid to end Bayern Munich's reign in Germany took an early blow as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at Augsburg on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts opened the scoring through Felix Uduokhai in the opening period amid a tepid attacking display from the visitors. Lucien Favre's side continued to be frustrated by a well-drilled Augsburg block in the second period and fell two goals behind after the impressive Daniel Caligiuri broke in behind the Dortmund backline before finishing neatly over Roman Burki.

Here are the Dortmund player ratings from their woeful display.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Roman Burki (GK) - 4/10 - An erratic display. Unconvincing. Should've claimed the free kick which led to Uduokhai's headed opener.

Emre Can (CB) - 5/10 - Gave away the foul which led to the hosts' first, and often too aggressive with his defensive work. Spacing all wrong between himself and Thomas Meunier for Augsburg's second.

Mats Hummels (CB) - 7/10 - The most assured of the Dortmund centre-halves - albeit in the easiest role. Fantastic in possession; frequently delivering punched line-breaking passes into his side's creators.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 5/10 - Fairly inactive defensively, while sound and unspectacular in possession. Nothing to write home about.

2. Wing-Backs & Midfielders

Thomas Meunier (RWB) - 3/10 - A lot went down his side in the opening period, but he failed to provide much quality. Crosses often failed to find their mark. Didn't put a foot right in the final third, and got booked for his troubles.

Axel Witsel (CM) - 4/10 - Tasked with providing control at transitions with his partner advancing. Struggled in the first half, as Augsburg had success playing through the visitors vertically – and his woes continued into the second period, with a booking via a tactical foul. Tidy enough in possession.

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 5/10 - Functioned in the role Julian Brandt played so effectively last season, but with mixed success on this occasion. Moved up into half-spaces to offer another vertical route of progression but couldn't facilitate combinations to anywhere near the same degree as Brandt. Substituted for the German just before the hour mark.

Raphael Guerreiro (LWB) - 5/10 - A few dynamic sequences but not enough on the whole. Combined a little bit better after the restart before making way for Marco Reus.

3. Forwards

Jadon Sancho (LW) - 4/10 - Drifted into the central space to receive possession but was distinctly sloppy once the ball arrived at his feet. Forced into wider positions as the game wore on but this didn't suit him and he failed to have any impact.

Erling Braut Haaland (ST) - 5/10 - Pretty anonymous as Heiko Herrlich's well-drilled low block offered him little chance to breathe.

Giovani Reyna (RW) - 6/10 - A master space interpreter and superb at penetrating the half-spaces with timely movements. Uncharacteristically sloppy off minimal touches, mind, but certainly offered some thrust to a tame attacking display from the visitors.
