Atlético Madrid host Real Valladolid at the Wanda Metropolitano this weekend, in what will be their La Liga fixture since returning to action.

It's been a promising return from Diego Simeone's side, with a useful draw against Athletic Club followed up with a mauling of Osasuna in midweek.

Valladolid, meanwhile, sit 15th in the table, but they are relatively solid in defence - meaning Los Rojiblancos will probably have to work a little harder than they did last time out.

Here's 90min's preview of the game.

Predicted Lineups

Atlético: Oblak; Trippier, Savić, Giménez, Lodi; Thomas, Saúl, Koke, Llorente; Morata, Félix

Valladolid: Masip; Moyano, Joaquín, Salisu, Nacho; Plano, Alcaraz, Míchel, Suárez; Ünal, Guardiola

Recent Form

Take 'recent' with a pinch of salt. Both teams have played just twice since March, with La Liga only coming back into focus last weekend.

Valladolid have earned just one point from those two games, while Atlético's 5-0 win at Osasuna means they have earned four. With that victory and Getafe's slip-up, they now occupy the fourth Champions League spot - with only Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla ahead of them in the table.

Atlético also have their beating of Liverpool in the Champions League knockout stages still relatively fresh in their minds, so confidence is high in the capital. Valladolid, on the other hand, will feel at the break came at the right time, as their 4-1 drubbing against Athletic Club was certainly a night to forget.

Here's both sides results in their last five games.

Prediction

Atlético Madrid looked menacing in attack in their 5-0 away win midweek, and that was after ringing the changes. With a more familiar looking XI due to face Valladolid, Simeone's side should be confident of extending their lead over Real Sociedad and Getafe in the race for Champions League football.

The story of the season for the visitors has been a reasonably successful one to this point. However, they must not take their feet off the pedal as survival is not a formality by any means.

Victory here, though, seems rather unlikely against. João Félix was electric against Osasuna, and if he can replicate that form again, victory will follow.

Prediction: Atlético Madrid 2-0 Real Valladolid
