Both Atletico Madrid and Milan have endured frustrating times of it in the Champions League this season and Wednesday night's meeting between the pair is a must-win game for both teams.

The Rossoneri have shown naivety at times and are currently bottom of Group B with just one point. Anything less than a victory would see them crash out of the group stages, and even if they do win it may not be enough.

Meanwhile, Atleti are third on four points. A victory would likely see them move above FC Porto in second, as they have a tough game against Liverpool to contend with on matchday five.

Last time the pair met, Atletico left it very late to secure the points with a 97th-minute penalty from Luis Suarez sealing their victory.

Atletico have experienced some discipline problems in Europe this season with Antoine Griezmann and Felipe seeing red in their last two matches. The latter remains out but Griezmann is back in the fold after having the second game of his suspension overturned.

Kieran Tripper and Joao Felix are both doubts due to injury.

Milan remain without number-one stopper Mike Maignan through injury. Although this is a blow, Ciprian Tatarusanu is a capable deputy.

Stefano Pioli is also missing Fikayo Tomori, Ante Rebic, Davide Calabria and Samu Castillejo, though Rafael Leao - who came off during his side's last outing against Fiorentina - is expected to be fine.

Atletico Madrid vs Milan score prediction

Both of these sides have been strong domestically this season but have lacked that killer instinct in the Champions League.

Only a win will do for each of these teams, but don't expect a free-flowing game. Both managers like to counter, but they are unlikely to be afforded much space to do so.

In the end, we think that Atletico's superior experience in this competition should shine through - though do not expect it to be pretty.

Prediction: Atletico 1-0 Milan
