Aston Villa have announced the signing of Alex Moreno from Real Betis subject to international clearance and a successful visa application.

90min recently reported that Villa were closing in on an agreement with the Spanish side for just over £10m after opting to pursue Moreno over Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo.

And the West Midlands side confirmed on Wednesday that the 29-year-old has completed his move to Villa Park.

Villa boss Unai Emery said: "Alex is a good player that can help our squad. He has been one of the top left-backs in La Liga over the past few seasons and we are delighted to have him here."

Moreno was the subject of intense transfer interest from Nottingham Forest back in the summer of 2022 following their promotion to the Premier League.

His arrival at Villa could mean that the club terminate the loan of Ludwig Augustinsson from Sevilla. The Sweden international has played just five times since arriving in England.

Moreno is expected to compete with Lucas Digne for the left-back spot in Unai Emery's starting lineup.
