Arsenal vs Liverpool is a fixture steeped in history and drama.

The Gunners and the Reds have clashed frequently over the years and matches between the two sides tend to be filled to the brim with chaos and, most importantly, goals.

The pair have met in every Premier League season since the competition's inception and seldom serve up anything but a thriller.

Here is the complete head-to-head record between Arsenal and Liverpool.

Arsenal headed into the final game of the 1988/89 season knowing they needed to win at Anfield to be crowned First Division champions ahead of Liverpool. Not only that, the Gunners needed to prevail by two clear goals to clinch the title.

A scoreless first half was promising for Liverpool, but Alan Smith's 52nd-minute strike had the nerves jangling on Merseyside. With time running out, Arsenal's dream of a first league triumph in 18 years was fading.

However, up stepped Michael Thomas in stoppage time. The midfielder, who would join Liverpool two years later and enjoy seven years at Anfield, struck in the dying embers to give Arsenal their two-goal cushion, sending the title down to north London in a dramatic finale.

An FA Cup final between Arsenal and Liverpool promised to be a thrilling affair and it didn't disappoint. Despite the game being goalless with 20 minutes left, the drama was to come.

Freddie Ljungberg gave the Gunners the lead in the 72nd minute, with Arsenal unfortunate to have been denied an earlier opener after Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz saved the ball on the line from Thierry Henry's effort with a blatant but overlooked handball.

That would prove costly for the Gunners as Michael Owen fired home from close range with seven minutes remaining to level the score.

Just five minutes later, Liverpool completed their comeback. The young and exuberant Owen outpaced Lee Dixon and Tony Adams to scamper behind the Arsenal backline, slotting home an accurate left-footed strike from a tight angle and single-handedly winning the FA Cup for the Reds.

Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal - April 2009

Andrey Arshavin joined an elite club in the latter stages of the 2008/09 season when he became one of the few players to have scored four goals in a Premier League match during an eight-goal bonanza at Anfield.

With Liverpool in the hunt for a first Premier League title, Arsenal's Russian proved to be the thorn in their side. He netted his first just before half-time, hammering his effort off the underside of the crossbar, but Fernando Torres' header and a slightly comical Yossi Benayoun goal put the Reds in front early in the second half.

Arshavin's thunderbolt from outside the box levelled proceedings before the winger capitalised on Fabio Aurelio's poor clearance to put Arsenal back ahead. Torres quickly responded with a remarkable goal of his own, but, with the Reds pushing for a winner, Arshavin grabbed his fourth to silence Anfield in the 90th minute.

Despite Arshavin taking home the match ball, Benayoun would grab Liverpool a late equaliser as the spoils were shared. However, it proved a devastating blow to the Reds' title charge.

With Liverpool in another title race, this time with Manchester City rather than Manchester United, Arsenal's visit to Anfield was a test of their credentials. They passed with flying colours.

Liverpool were 4-0 up within 20 minutes on Merseyside, a brace from centre-back Martin Skrtel bolstered by goals from Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge as Arsenal collapsed.

Sterling grabbed his second later in the game, with future Gunners boss Mikel Arteta unable to spare Arsenal's blushes with a second-half penalty.

Brendan Rodgers' side enjoyed the most emphatic of victories against their north London foes, but would ultimately fall short in their title bid.

If you want guaranteed goals, then Arsenal vs Liverpool will always tickle your fancy. In the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in 2019, spectators were treated to a ten-goal thriller at Anfield between two heavily rotated sides.

It was a truly bizarre evening on Merseyside, with five goals in each half. Shkodran Mustafi's early own goal was cancelled out by an effort from Arsenal's Lucas Torreira and a brace from Gabriel Martinelli, with James Milner's penalty reducing the deficit just before the break.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles restored the Gunners' two-goal cushion before quickfire efforts from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi made things all square. Joe Willock's screamer looked set to give Arsenal the win, but Origi's acrobatic stoppage-time volley would send the match to penalties.

The penalty shootout was slightly less chaotic, with only Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos missing to send the Gunners crashing out of the Carabao Cup in a crazy clash.
