Arsenal have turned reportedly turned their attention to Chelsea's Jorginho after talks with Lyon's Houssem Aouar apparently broke down before the end of the transfer window. The Gunners were linked with Aouar all throughout the summer, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the deal is now off and Lyon have stopped negotiations.
Journalist Julien Laurens has claimed that Mikel Arteta's side will now turn their attention to Jorginho.
Arsenal will not sign Houssem Aouar. They will try to get Jorginho though.— Julien Laurens (@LaurensJulien) October 3, 2020
OL board have stopped negotiations with Arsenal for Houssem Aouar.#AFC made clear they won’t pay €50m + add ons [€60m total] asked by Aulas and OL told to Arsenal that the deal is over.— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) October 3, 2020
No Juventus, PSG or Real Madrid on last 2 days. Arsenal was the only chance. ⛔️ #Aouar
The Brazilian has been linked with a David Luiz-esque move across this summer. The 28-year-old has made an impressive start to the season, scoring three goals and an assist in his first three Premier League games, scoring a double in a 4-0 demolition of Crystal Palace on Saturday.
According to ESPN, Chelsea would be reluctant to allow Jorginho to depart without signing another defensive midfielder, but Frank Lampard's side are still hoping to sign West Ham's Declan Rice which could allow Jorginho to leave.
Gunners boss Arteta is particularly keen to strengthen his midfield before the transfer window closes, with Matteo Guendouzi unlikely to have a future at the Emirates and Lucas Torreira on his way to Atletico Madrid.
