Antonio Conte set for crunch talks with Inter hierarchy

Inter boss Antonio Conte is due to meet the club's president Steven Zhang and the board on Monday, with discussions planned that could decide his future in Milan.

The 51-year-old guided the Nerazzurri to their first Scudetto in more than a decade in 2020/21, but despite his success thus far, speculation is rife over whether or not he'll continue in the job.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (as reported by Football Italia), the talks will be centred around the overall project at Inter and the club's growth plan. Following those conversations, and depending on how they go, both the Inter hierarchy and Conte himself will decide how they wish to proceed.

The report claims that Conte is looking for guarantees over keeping his star players at the club, but that he also wants to understand what he'll be able to do this summer in terms of recruitment as he looks to retain the Serie A title as well as make his mark in Europe.

While Zhang is likely to give the former Juventus boss assurances regarding the futures of those currently at San Siro, due to the club's financial predicament amid the coronavirus pandemic it's thought he'll be unable to guarantee significant investment to improve the squad further in the absence of any sales.

Conte took over in May 2019 and his current deal is due to expire at the end of next season. His side have averaged 2.11 points per match since his arrival, so it's expected the Inter hierarchy should be doing everything within their power to keep hold of their title-winning coach.

Inter finished the season comfortably 12 points clear of nearest challengers and city rivals Milan, and 13 clear of ousted champions Juventus who endured a tempestuous season under another former midfielder in Andrea Pirlo.
