Antonio Conte responds to Tottenham fans chanting his name during Norwich win

Antonio Conte has admitted he was happy to hear Tottenham fans chanting his name towards the end of the 3-0 victory over Norwich on Sunday, though added he hopes to 'deserve this' more in the future.

Spurs wrapped up a routine win thanks to strikes from Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez and Son Heung-min, moving up to fifth in the Premier League in the process.

With ten points from his first four games in charge, Conte has made a bright start to his work at Tottenham and fans have also been impressed, with chants of 'Antonio' being sung around the north London stadium.

On the fans' support, he said: "First of all I want to say thanks to all the fans who sang my name. I'm very happy and enthusiastic for this and I feel a lot of responsibility towards our fans. They trust a lot in my work and to hear my name is good.

"I've only just arrived. Only one month and I have this responsibility to deserve this name. I think it's too much and I want to show in the future to deserve this."

The Italian also gave an update on Sergio Reguilon's fitness. The defender was withdrawn midway through the first half and replaced by Ryan Sessegnon, who gave a more positive account of himself after his red card in the Europa Conference League defeat to Mura in his last game.

Conte added: “Reguilon is a generous player, because he started the game, and he wasn’t 100 per cent. I spoke with him at the end of the game, and we stopped him at the right time. I hope to have him very soon. It’s not an injury, only fatigue in his muscle.

“On one hand, I was disappointed with this situation. On the other, I think Ryan Sessegnon had the possibility to play. This player is very young, he needs to feel confidence and to feel also the right atmosphere, that’s he’s playing for an important shirt.

"He has the capacity, the quality, but he has to work. I’m pleased for him, and for Doherty, when he came in, he played very well. We need all the players in the squad. We have to play many, many games and they have to be ready.”

Reguilon posted on Twitter shortly after the victory, urging Fantasy Premier League players not to sell him.

Tottenham are next in action when they host Rennes on Thursday. Sessegnon is suspended for that fixture, meaning Conte could be short on options at left wing back if Reguilon either isn't passed fit or is in need of a rest.
