Inter manager Antonio Conte snapped at reporters and Fabio Capello following his side's draw with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday evening - a result that dumped them out of Europe altogether after finishing bottom of their Champions League group.

A win would have sent Conte's side through to the last 16, but they were held to a 0-0 draw by Shakhtar - a team who less than four months ago, Inter had hit five past in the Europa League semi finals.

When questioned by Sky Sport about how his side had managed to play out two stalemates home and away against Shakhtar, having beaten them 5-0 in August, former Chelsea boss Conte gave an irritable response.

“Shakhtar came here and transformed their tactics against us in order to neutralise us," the Inter boss said [via Football Italia]. "They lost 5-0, so that’s why they changed. Think before asking questions."

Sky Pundit Capello, who has tasted Champions League success as a manager, then asked Conte if his side had a plan B; a line of questioning that appeared to irk Inter's boss given his sharp response.

“We do have a Plan B, but I won’t talk about it here, otherwise that’ll be a total disaster and that’ll get neutralised too," Conte retorted.

This was a positively rich and detailed answer in comparison to the former Chelsea manager's response when Capello suggested Inter lacked determination and a desire to win at all costs.

“I have no response to that," Conte shrugged.

The insinuation that his side lacked determination really hit a nerve with Conte, who gave a fiery answer when reporters asked if this was missing in such a crucial fixture.

“You can have your opinion, I respect that," the 51-year-old said. "I do not agree, because I think the team gave all it had, did all it needed to. It’s incredible that over two games that we dominated against Shakhtar, we didn’t score a single goal.

“I don’t agree we lacked determination at all. My players gave their all tonight, so I absolutely do not agree. We have to evaluate everything with cool heads, not after an exit like this. There is a great deal of regret and disappointment, but I absolutely do not feel we were lacking determination, focus or aggression."
