France striker Antoine Griezmann has spoken of his pride over his excellent performances at EURO 2016 ahead of this summer's tournament.

The current Barcelona star was Les Bleus' leading light in attack, scoring six goals and being named in the UEFA Team of the Tournament alongside teammate Dimitri Payet.

He said: "On a personal level, I was happy and satisfied with my performance at the EURO. People started talking about me. My performance levels were really good. The fact we lost in the final kind of spoiled it, but, as I said, we now have the new EURO coming up and we’ll try to win that.

"It’s true that, on a personal level, I was very proud [of my EURO]."

However, France came unstuck in the final of the competition. Up against Portugal, Didier Deschamps' side couldn't make the breakthrough and their hearts were broken when Selecao substitute Eder scored the winner in extra time.

Asked if he used the loss in the final as motivation, he added: "Yes. I lost two consecutive finals in two months, the [UEFA]Champions League final and the EURO final.

"The holiday after all that wasn't the best. But it helps you come back stronger, even if it’s painful at first. But after that, when you’re in big games or in finals, you approach them differently.

"Yes, we’re aware it will be a good competition, where people will be expectant of us as we’re the World Cup holders. After what happened in 2016, we’re eager to lift the trophy. That’s our aim.

"We’ll need to prepare well, it will be a long, tricky journey. I think that we have a good enough squad and coaching staff to achieve that."
