The agent of Porto left-back Alex Telles is expecting to receive a bid from Manchester United after the Red Devils rejected the chance to sign Sergio Reguilón from Real Madrid.
United were prepared to sign Reguilón on a permanent basis but refused to agree to Real Madrid's demands of a buy-back clause, instead allowing Tottenham Hotspur to swoop in and agree a £28m deal for the Spain international.
United are still looking for a new left-back, and according to A Bola, Telles' agent Pini Zahavi is expecting to hear from the Red Devils in the near future to get a deal over the line before the transfer window closes on October 5.
Zahavi is said to be confident that United are readying a bid worth in the region of £18m for the 27-year-old, who has entered the final year of his contract and has made it clear that he will not be signing an extension.
Porto had initially wanted a buyer to trigger Telles' release clause of around £34m, but having seen suitors like Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain look elsewhere, they have accepted the need to lower their demands and ensure they sell the Brazilian before he can walk away for free.
Zahavi's optimism likely stems from the fact that there aren't many top-class left-backs available this summer now that Reguilón is off the market.
United have been linked with a whole host of young players, including Monaco's Fodé Ballo-Touré, Angers' Rayan Aït-Nouri and Rennes' Faitout Maouassa, but manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would prefer somebody with more top-level experience.
Telles has enjoyed four hugely impressive seasons with Porto, racking up 24 goals and 55 assists in 192 appearances, and that kind of experience (and price tag) has piqued Solskjaer's interest.
United's focus remains on striking a deal for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, but with talks over the Englishman dragging on, United officials have started addressing issues in other areas of the squad to ensure they are sorted by the time the transfer window shuts.
