Alex Greenwood has returned home from England's pre-Euro 2022 camp at St George's Park after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Manchester City defender will be monitored regularly with a view to returning to the camp as soon as possible.

The Lionesses' 28-player provisional squad are currently at St George's Park preparing for the upcoming home European Championships, which begin at Old Trafford on 6 July.

Greenwood is expected to feature heavily for England at the Euros this summer after enjoying an impressive 2021/22 campaign with Manchester City and nailing down a regular Lionesses starting spot under Sarina Wiegman.

The defender featured in all 22 of her side's WSL fixtures last term, and her performances saw her nominated for the 2021/22 PFA Players' Player of the Year and finish second in the PFA Fans' Player of the Year vote.

England will step up their Euro 2022 preparations on Thursday 16 June when they welcome Belgium to Molineux in the first of three pre-tournament friendlies.

The visit of Wiegman's former side, reigning European champions the Netherlands, follows on 24 June, before the Lionesses' final friendly against Switzerland takes place in Zurich on 30 June.

Wiegman is also currently away from camp following a close family bereavement. The England boss is expected to return to St George's Park next week, when the Lionesses' Euros squad will be cut to the final 23 players.
