Villarreal have confirmed Alex Baena has filed a police report after punching incident involving Federico Valverde.

Reports emerged following the Yellow Submarine's shock 3-2 win over Real Madrid that Valverde had waited in the car park to confront Baena about taunting his wife's miscarriage scare earlier in 2023. This confrontation would reportedly lead to Valverde punching Baena.

Baena was keen to insist that reports about what he said during the game were not true in a statement: "Very happy with the team's impressive victory in a venue like the Santiago Bernabeu, but at the same time, very sad for the aggression I suffered after the game and surprised by what is being said about me.

"IT IS COMPLETELY FALSE THAT I SAID THAT," wrote Baena.

Now it has been confirmed in an official statement from Villarreall that the player has decided to file charges against Valverde for 'assault'.

The statement on Villarreal's club website reads: "The Villarreal CF footballer, Álex Baena, suffered an assault last night while he was going to the team bus after the match played against Real Madrid CF at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

"Faced with this situation, the player has decided to file the corresponding complaint against the aggressor before the National Police.

"Once again, Villarreal CF shows its rejection of any act of violence and firmly believes in the version of its player, whom it will support throughout this entire process."

Valverde nor Real Madrid have yet to make a statement on the incident.
