Former Italian national team center-back Alessandro Nesta has revealed he would prefer his next managerial job to be in MLS.

After a hugely successful playing career which saw trophy-laden spells with Lazio, AC Milan, and the Azzurri - as well as a short stint in MLS with CF Montreal - Nesta started his coaching career in the United States with Miami FC.

He's since had unsuccessful posts with Perugia and Frosinone back in his homeland and is currently without a job.

Across his last two jobs combined, Nesta won just 42 of his 117 games in charge at a rate of 36%. The 45-year-old fared much better with Miami FC, winning just under 50% (35) of his 71 games in charge and helping his side be crowned 2017 spring/fall champions in the old NASL which ran from 2011 to 2017.

Asked where he might end up next, Nesta expressed a preference to return across the Atlantic to MLS and branded anyone willing to put themselves through the rigors of Serie A management a 'fool'.

“I’d like to combine work and family, so staying in the USA would be ideal. I spent three years without my wife and children and now I am making up for it,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia).

“However, it is more difficult to get a job in the MLS than in Italy. They pick coaches from all around the world, there is more competition. In Italy, there is too much pressure, you have to manage every aspect, from the pitch to social media.

“I am accustomed to it, but whoever chooses this job is a fool.”

At the time of writing, there are five MLS clubs under interim management following the departure of their permanent head coaches: Chicago Fire, FC Cincinnati, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps.
