Roma are not planning to extend Ainsley Maitland-Niles' loan from Arsenal when his deal in the Italian capital expires at the end of the season, and the Gunners are keen to shift the utility man on.

The 24-year-old has been an unused substitute in Roma's last four Serie A games, with Jose Mourinho's side finally turning a corner in what's been a largely underwhelming season thus far.

While Maitland-Niles has often stressed his desire to play as a midfielder, he's been largely deployed as a wing-back at the Stadio Olimpico.

And the Daily Mirror report that the Giallorossi do not intend to keep the England international beyond this season, and Arsenal are expected to try and find him a new home.

Maitland-Niles will have just one year left on his Gunners contract by the time he returns to north London in the summer and is unlikely to receive a fresh deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Everton and Wolves were both heavily interested in a deal for Maitland-Niles last year when he first spoke of his desire to play more regularly, though the Mirror do not state if either club would reignite their interest this summer.

Maitland-Niles spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan with West Brom where he did feature regularly in his favoured midfield role, though a return to the Baggies does not seem likely given that they are firmly stuck in mid-table in the Championship.
