Ada Hegerberg calls on Norway to show 'completely different attitude' against Austria

Ada Hegerberg admits Norway have a responsibility to show a 'completely different attitude' in their final Euro 2022 group match against Austria as they look to bounce back from their 8-0 loss to England.

Norway suffered the heaviest defeat in their history during the loss to the Lionesses at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening, and were also on the receiving end of the largest losing margin in European Championship history.

They must beat Austria in their final Euro 2022 group fixture at St. Mary's on Friday evening if they are to progress to the knockout stages.

"I think that tomorrow is all about one thing and it's about showing a true face," said Hegerberg. "Work ethic, manage to hit the simple passes, but tomorrow it's all about showing a completely different side of ourselves. There's no other way around it other than giving everything we have.

"To be honest the quarter final is not even in our head at the moment. This is a game you've got to play like it's the very last game you play. It's all about showing an attitude; we have a huge responsibility in showing a completely different attitude.

"And that's what we're preparing for, that's the only way to bounce back from this; to show up, trust each other and trust that we give a whole different us."

Norway face an Austria side who also have hopes of progressing to the quarter finals following their 2-0 victory over Northern Ireland. They proved a hard nut to crack during their opening group defeat to England, and Ingrid Syrstad Engen acknowledged Austria's defensive strengths while adding she was confident Norway had the attacking prowess to cause them problems

The midfielder was also keen to reiterate Hegerberg's sentiment about her team displaying a different version of themselves following their loss to England.

"It's a team that is defending well - it's going to be difficult to get through them," said Engen. "We know if we play like we normally do offensively we can punish them and we can create chances. I see opportunities but it's going to be hard - it's going to be two teams who are fighting to get through.

"I expect a tough game but that we are on a completely different level than the last game. We all want to go on the pitch to show a different side, to show ourselves and our fans that we don't accept the last game and we're going to show what we're here for. Personally I cannot wait to step on the pitch tomorrow."
