A busy year of football has just ended, and an even busier one is about to begin.

With club football continuing to come thick and fast, the transfer window now open, and an international football calendar packed full of European Championships, Copa Americas, AFCONs and Asian Cups, 2024 promised to be quite the year for football aficionados.

Ahead of all of that fun, the editorial team at 90min have decided to make our predictions for 2024.

Barcelona's current slump continues until Xavi Hernandez is eventually sacked. Xavi is replaced by Unai Emery fresh off the back of a UEFA Europa Conference League triumph with Aston Villa.

The appointment of Emery ultimately ends up being a disaster for La Blaugrana, and they are manager-less by November and begging an ex-player to take over again.

Germany fail to do anything at Euro 2024 and Thomas Tuchel takes another Julian Nagelsmann job after getting the boot at a disgruntled Bayern Munich - even though they battle past Leverkusen to win the Bundesliga title again.

The word on the street is that Albart, the UEFA Euro 2024 mascot, is an absolute psychopath. It's not that he's evil, he just lacks empathy and he goes into a dissociative state and commits atrocities.

I fully expect the big teddy bear to lamp Harry Kane after missing a penalty that results in England getting booted out of next year's Euros before happy-slapping Jordan Henderson.

Inter win the Champions League.

If I'm going to do this, I'm not going to half-arse it. They have the big-game experience now, they have the squad, they have the manager - why can't Inter do it?

Jose Mourinho returns to Stamford Bridge.

Is this a good idea? Not for me to say.

Is this a fun idea? Oh, absolutely.

Frank Lampard will get sacked.

No, but seriously, some hapless club owner will be blinded by his glittering playing career, ignore the fact that Lampard has won just one of his last 21 matches as a manager and hire him only to recognise the blunder later this year.
