Alphonso Davies Signs New Long-Term Contract at Bayern Munich Until 2025
Bayern Munich starlet Alphonso Davies has signed a new long-term contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions that will promises to keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2025.
The teenage Canada international completed his pre-arranged move to Bayern from MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps last January and has become a regular starter this season.
Initially a winger, Davies has been successfully repurposed as a left-back and has played 90 minutes in every Bundesliga game, except one, since late October. He has also earned praise for his Champions League performances, particularly against Tottenham and Chelsea.
Davies’ new deal was signed at Bayern HQ in the presence of top officials Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic, with all four wearing masks and sat apart around the table to socially distance themselves as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I am very happy,” Davies told Bayern’s official website.
“FC Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world and it was a dream come true for me to be able to play here. I felt comfortable from day one. I want to get as many titles as possible with this club. The mentality of always wanting to win everything is FC Bayern's DNA.”
Kahn commented, “Alphonso Davies is a player who has achieved a high level of performance at a young age and at the same time has great development potential.
“Anyone who can play at top level at FC Bayern at such a young age can have a great career ahead of them. We are all happy to have him with us for the long term. He brings a lot with him and we are sure that we will still have a lot of fun with him.”
Salihamidzic lauded the player’s ‘speed, enthusiasm and professional attitude’.
