Manchester United & Newcastle Enter Running for Barcelona's Arturo Vidal

Manchester United and Newcastle have joined a growing list of clubs looking to acquire Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Barça are hoping to overhaul their squad this summer, and Vidal is one of a number of older players who could be shown the door in order to raise funds for a rebuild.

Mundo Deportivo report that the Red Devils and the Magpies made formal enquiries regarding Vidal in the past week.

However, it's thought that Inter remain in the driving seat due to Vidal's personal relationship with manager Antonio Conte. The Italian managed the midfielder for three seasons at Juventus, winning three league titles together.

Newcastle's potential change in ownership has seen them linked with a number of high-profile players in recent days, and Vidal is the latest name.

Mundo Deportivo also reference another report from Calcio Mercato, who state that much change is afoot on Tyneside, with Max Allegri potentially in the running to replace Steve Bruce.

Allegri, like Conte, managed Vidal at Juventus, reaching the Champions League final together in 2015, ultimately losing 2-1 to Barcelona.

The prospect of working with a manager that Vidal has an excellent relationship with and playing under ambitious new owners means Newcastle are actually the favourable English option to the Chilean.

While Newcastle's project is ambitious but at least intriguing, Vidal seems uninterested in a move to Old Trafford. Manchester United have already enquired about the midfielder, but he was hardly blown away by their pitch.

Vidal, who still has a year left on his current deal, would ideally like to stay at Barcelona, particularly after earning the trust of new head coach Quique Setien. But the club are determined to pursue other targets, including Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, and Vidal could possibly be used in a potential player plus cash swap deal for the Argentine.
