Tottenham Preparing Big Push to Sign Summer Free Agent Thomas Meunier

Exclusive - Tottenham are preparing a big push in order to complete the signing of Paris Saint-Germain full-back Thomas Meunier, who is available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Belgian has been plying his trade in the French capital since the summer of 2016, but the four-year deal he signed when joining the club expires this summer - and he is not expected to pen fresh terms

Meunier has made 27 appearances this season for PSG, including five in the Champions League - though he missed the Parisian's second leg comeback against Borussia Dortmund through suspension.

But a source has told 90min that his future could lie at Tottenham, as José Mourinho continues to hunt a new first choice right back. The Portuguese boss has identified Meunier as a primary target as he continues to be unconvinced by the performances of Serge Aurier, who has made several costly mistakes this season, interspersed with occasional moments of brilliance.

He is also unsure whether Kyle Walker-Peters, currently on loan at Southampton, is the right long term solution. Spurs are willing to offer Meunier a big contract to move to north London

and hope that the Belgian's close friendship with current Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld will help convince him to make the move.

They will, however, face competition for Meunier's signature. Manchester United are admirers of his and the Red Devils are keen to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has taken on a heavy workload since joining from Crystal Palace last summer.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are also in the market for Meunier, and reports elsewhere have previously suggested that a deal to join BVB is as good as done90min understands this is not the case.

If Tottenham are able to conclude a deal for Meunier, they'll be snapping up a player with plenty of continental and international pedigree. During his four years in France, he's made 128 appearances for the club, scooping a host of silverware along the way - including two Ligue 1 crowns and a Coupe de France success back in 2018.

He is also an established international with Belgium, and played a starring role as his country finished third at the 2018 World Cup.
