Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother Dolores Aveiro has been released from hospital at home in Funchal on the island of Madeira after suffering a stroke earlier this month.

News emerged from Portugal that Dolores has been discharged from the Hospital Particular da Madeira, having initially been admitted to the Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

“You guys thought I wouldn't be back,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I came back slowly, gently, calmly and with peace in my heart, and with a thought to share: why judge the colour of the skin, the clothes or shoes we wear or each person. We are nothing in the face of life, we are simple pedestrians in this world.

“Life is a lesson and we just need to value it and be grateful for everything, and have faith in God that everything will work out.

“I am blessed to have the opportunity to live, to love my family and have them close to me.

“Thank you all on that side for your support and affection, it was hard days but of struggles and victories, I am already in my little house surrounded by the love of my family, which is my strength and good energy."

Dolores also urged her 2.1 followers to ‘stay at home’ in reference to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Her son Ronaldo is directly helping the fight against the illness, with AS reporting that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will join agent Jorge Mendes in personally purchasing medical supplies and equipment to donate to a hospital in Porto.

Mendes is already said to have paid for 200,000 medical gowns and three ventilators. He is expected to follow that up with 50,000 masks and will also donate money to the hospital as well.

The report explains that Mendes will be followed in his generosity by several footballers, including Ronaldo, who is his most high-profile client.
