Liverpool Remain Interested in Anderlecht's Jeremy Doku After Bizarre Chelsea Confusion
Liverpool remain keen on signing Anderlecht striker Jeremy Doku, having previously believed the teenager was set to join Chelsea after a misunderstanding when the youngster visited their training complex.
The 17-year-old and his father had been given a tour of Liverpool's training ground, with Jürgen Klopp supposedly telling the forward he viewed him as Sadio Mané's long-term successor in Liverpool's front line.
The young forward has been linked with a host of European clubs, but it is reported that his preference has always been to join Liverpool.
The teenager's father explained, as reported by Her Nieuswblad: "At the age of 16, Jeremy could sign a pro contract with Anderlecht. But even then Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Ajax and PSV were interested."
He added: "My preference was Liverpool. How we were received there, damn. Trainer Klopp explained how he saw a potential successor to Sadio Mané in Jeremy."
Of the confusion surrounding Liverpool's desire to bring the player to Anfield, Doku's father explained: "At the training complex, Mignolet, Mané and Wijnaldum came to talk to us. Yet Jeremy was distracted by the talk. Liverpool panicked."
"We talked about Chelsea and they thought he was going to sign there, while we were just chatting about our youngest daughter. She's called Chelsea."
All a big misunderstanding, then.
In any case, it appears the Reds are preparing to renew their interest in Doku this summer, as Jürgen Klopp begins to plan for the future.
It is anticipated that Liverpool will be in the market for several major signings at the end of the season, in an attempt to bolster the current squad and consolidate their current dominance of the Premier League.
The Reds are an astounding 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City, and can win their first title in 30 years with two more victories.
