Just when you thought Tottenham Hotspur's night couldn't get any worse.

Just when you thought 'well, the only way is up for Spurs, because it can't get any bloody worse', it actually went and got worse.

Because, after being dumped out of the FA Cup by the worst team in England's top flight, Eric Dier has seemingly decided to go full Eric Cantona.

Oh no, he's not become a world class footballer (that's never going to happen), he's jumped into the stands and had an altercation with a Tottenham Hotspur fan.

Yes, really.

In footage captured on camera by a myriad of fans in the stadium, it appears as though the England international jumped into stands of the west bank and was involved in a physical altercation with a fan.

It is unclear as to what exactly prompted Dier's actions, but Jose Mourinho has confirmed to TalkSport that the midfielder was responding to situation involving his brother following the game. Mourinho's comments contextualise Dier's shouting of 'he's my brother!' in some clips doing the rounds on social media.

Speaking in his press conference, Mourinho stated:

"I don't think that belongs to the game. The game was a fantastic representation of the FA Cup, but I cannot run away from the question. I think Eric Dier did what we as professionals cannot do when someone insults you and your family is involved.

"The person insulted Eric, the younger brother was not happy with the situation and Eric was not happy.

"We as professionals cannot do what he did."

The incident comes after Tottenham's most disappointing result, and performance, of the season to date. Spurs suffered a shock defeat at the hands of a lowly Norwich City in the FA Cup fifth round, drawing the game 1-1 after extra time, before losing in a penalty shootout.

More to follow...most likely a "When seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea", type comment from Eric Dier.
